Ski Boots Information
-
Size
-
Ski boots are sized in Mondo point sizes, which are based on the length of the foot in centimeters. To find your Mondo point size, either measure your foot from heel to toe or add 18 to a U.S. man's shoe size (if size 3 or more) or 17 for a U.S. woman's shoe size (if size 5 or more).
Flex
-
Another important component of ski boots is their flex, or how much the outer shell will move. Soft boots have lower flex and are generally designed for more recreational use or lightweight skiers, whereas hard boots with high flex may be uncomfortable but allow for more control in more difficult terrain.
Width
-
The width of the ski boot, sometimes called the last, ranges from 95 to 104 mm at the widest part of the foot--with 100 mm considered a normal-width ski boot. Expert skiers will often wear narrower boots for more control on the slopes.
Packing Out
-
New ski boots should have liners that fit the foot snugly because as you wear the boots, the liners will pack out or break down in places where your foot needs more room.
Women's Boots
-
Many manufacturers make ski boots specifically for women. These boots may have a lower flex, more insulation and a liner that will allow room for larger calves.
