Indeed, one of the best ways to traverse a winter wonderland is on top of a good pair of skis. Still, if you plan on using cross country skis, you must make sure that you buy skis that are the correct size. This is even more the case if you plan on competing.       Determine what you want to do with the skis. Different types of cross country skiing use different types of skis. Will you be on trails, will you want to go off the trails, will you want to race? Each of these skis have different widths and densities for their own purposes.

      Measure your height. The ski size will be proportional to your height.

      Find the ski size you'll need. A rough formula for the size you need is your height in inches multiplied by 2.6, and then adding 25. This will give you the length needed in centimeters. Or you can consult the sizing table in the Resources section.

      Make adjustments. If you plan on skate skiing, your ski should be 10 centimeters shorter. If you're heavy for your height, you should move up a size in skis.

      At the ski shop, find the section of skis for your purposes and find a pair that is the correct length. To be sure, ask an attendant to double check if you have the right length.
