How to Mount Binding to Cross Country Skis

Before hitting the slopes on new cross country skis, you must ensure that the bindings are attached correctly. It is possible to purchase skis with the bindings already attached. If not, it is best to leave this task to experienced employees at a ski shop. If the bindings are not balanced correctly or if the screws are not drilled straight, you risk injury out on the slopes. Incorrectly drilled screws also place you at risk of tearing out your bindings and ruining the skis. However, if you are pressed for time and money, it is possible to attach them on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the balance point on the skis. This can be done by placing the ski on a screwdriver and positioning it until it is balanced. Note the balance point using a marker.

    • 2

Place the binding on the ski and, after lining up the center of the binding with the balance point, mark where the screws should go. It is critical to precisely line the center of the binding with the balance point to avoid injury later.

    • 3

Drill the holes in the ski, being careful to drill straight and not too deeply. Do not drill all the way through the ski.

    • 4

Put a small amount of glue into the hole, enough to hold the screw in place without overflowing.

    • 5

Place the binding on the ski and screw the screws into the holes using the pozi-drive screwdriver.

    • 6

Allow the skis to dry overnight.
