With many jackets either coming in either extremely heavy, with a loose cut; or featherweight with a tight cut, It’s always great to see brands bring in lightweight fabrics to a looser freeride cut. These jackets are designed for skiers who like to have an extremely lightweight jacket for improved efficiency on the uphill, yet not look like a lycra-clad skimo racer while you’re stomping around town.

This is certainly the case with this ski touring jacket, the Haglofs Vassi Touring, as it features a construction made up from the lightweight and breathable Gore-Tex Active waterproof material, while sporting a loose cut to help add on the style points.

Haglofs Vassi Touring GTX Jacket Build

Now the first thing to note has to be the use of Gore-Tex Active waterproof fabric. This three-layer waterproof technology puts low weight and high breathability at the core of its design thanks to an lightweight, and highly-porous, membrane that’s able to dump sweat while you’re breaking trail in the backcountry.

While Gore-Tex Active remains extremely lightweight, durability has been addressed through a 30-denier face fabric being used on the outside of the jacket to save it from any potential scuffs. That being said; this is a lightweight jacket, so it can’t be treated like your bombproof shell layer that could live for years at the bottom of your festering ski touring backpack.

And of course, being a Haglofs bit of kit, the Vassi Touring Jacket comes with sustainability in mind with many of the fabrics being made up from partially recycled materials.

Haglofs Vassi Touring GTX Jacket Features

The lightweight fabric matches the streamlined feature set of the Vassi Touring Jacket. It’s two external chest-height zipped pockets that make for an ideal space to stuff some small gloves, or ski touring skins in. Another single zipped pocket sits on the inside of the jacket, giving you space for a few energy bars.

Other features include a Recco reflector for that extra level of protection on top of your avalanche safety kit, a three-way adjustable helmet compatible hood (this will fit under both climbing and ski helmets), and waterproof zippers used throughout.

All in all, the Haglofs Vassi Touring jacket carries all the features you need for big days in the mountains, and nothing you don’t. This design is complimented with a fantastic fit that moves with you and a highly breathable fabric which lets you keep on trucking away at the skin track, without a worry about working up a sweat (it can’t, sadly, help your lack of fitness).
