Comfort, weight and durability is the name of the game when brands are designing ski jackets and pants suited for ski touring. And this is certainly the case for the all-new Khroma Kinetic jacket and pants – a ski touring outerwear system that’s made from the stretchy, durable and waterproof Proflex fabric to create a package that’s comfortable to wear through big days in the backcountry.

Rab Khroma Kinetic Ski Jacket & Pants Build

This Proflex fabric, which features in both the Khroma Kinetic jacket and pants, offers a stretchy feel thanks to the elastane-infused construction. You can certainly feel this stretch when you’ve got the jacket and pants on; something you’ll appreciate when you’re reaching high while boot packing or traversing alpine terrain.

The stretch doesn’t come at the loss of durability, either. The Proflex fabric is packing a 20-denier woven face fabric that’ll be capable of shrugging off abrasion from rocks, ski edges, or any other object you manage to rub yourself up against as you wind your way up towards the summit.

Rab has built in an extremely tough and durable kick patch on the inner of the cuff on the Khroma Kinetic Pants. This bit of tough fabric will help extend the life of the pants even after years of being cut up but ski edges, buckles and boot crampons.

The Proflex fabric comes with a breathability rating of 25,000 g/m2/24 hours. This puts it on the class-leading side of breathable fabrics. What this means to you and I, though, is that the jacket and pants will keep dumping sweat when you’re working hard in the backcountry, keeping you clear of that unwanted damp and clammy feeling you get with less breathable fabrics.

The two napoleon pockets on the front of the jacket also double as venting, while you’ve also got two pit zips on the back of each arm.

Rab Khroma Kinetic Ski Jacket & Pants Features

There’s a lot going on with this jacket and pants combo that makes it an ideal companion for ski mountaineering adventures in the alpine. First up has to be the helmet compatible hood that’ll easily swallow a wide range of ski and climbing helmets, while offering a good deal of adjustment for when you’re looking to keep things tucked out the way.

Next up are the pockets: you’ve got two huge napoleon pockets at the front, which provide more than enough space to stash a pair of gloves or ski touring skins. An avalanche transceiver pocket sits on the inside of the pants, complete with a clip to secure your transceiver to, if that’s how you prefer to carry your beeper.

If you’re someone who spends the majority of your time out ski touring in the backcountry then you’re going to really get on with an outerwear collection like the Rab Khroma range. The Kinetic Jacket and Pants bring an extremely well thought-out design to create a lightweight, durable and highly-breathable jacket and pants.
