Burton Idiom 3L Jacket Specs

Burton's Idiom line, created in the year 2000, was initially designed for the Japanese market. Conceptualized by Japanese business consultant Hiroshi Fujiwara, Idiom outerwear boasts technical mountaineering features without sacrificing fashion. Burton uses expensive waterproof fabrics and integrates a plethora of functional elements, making the Idiom line the cream of the crop. The 3L jacket is the perfect mix of function and fashion, protecting the rider from the elements while offering head-turning style.
  1. Three-Layer Waterproof Fabric

    • In the ski and snowboard world, three-layer fabric construction provides the lightest weight and most waterproof protection available. The three-layer application on the Idiom jacket consists of an outer dobby laminated to an inner waterproof membrane. Most waterproof membranes require an inner mesh lining to protect the coating. Burton bonds an additional layer of tricot to the membrane for protection. This application produces a lightweight fabric that keeps you dry without compromising your ability to breathe.

    Fully Taped Seams

    • Similar to a camping tent, Burton tapes each and every jacket seam on the Idiom 3L. Seam taping blocks moisture from entering the areas that are sewn together to construct the jacket. In lesser models, Burton only tapes the seams in critical areas such as the shoulders and back. Using a waterproof taping on all of the seams on Idiom jackets provides a product that will not leak and will last a lifetime.

    Pit Zips

    • Pit zips are a savior for any rider encountering varied mountain conditions. They allow your jacket to vent for prevention from overheating. Sometimes conditions at the top of the mountain are much colder or stormier than those at lower elevations. If you heat up on the way down, the pit zips provide for a heat escape while resting on the chairlift. Once at the top, zip back up for protection from the elements.

    Stash Pockets

    • Burton's designers, some of the best in the industry, used their creativity when designing the pockets for the Idiom 3L jacket. With specific pockets designed for your iPod, goggles and season's pass, this jacket retains all necessities. The right interior breast pocket houses an iPod nicely, with a small hole for routing your headset cord. The left interior breast pocket provides a safe haven for your goggles should they become foggy and need warming up. Lastly, the season's pass pocket is found along the bottom seam of the jacket. Flip up the jacket to reveal the see-through window and your easily legible pass.
