How to Join a New Soccer Team

1
Decide what level you wish to play at. If you think that you are a good player, and are willing to train once or twice a week, then a team in the higher leagues may be for you. If you would rather focus on making friends and having fun, then a lower league team would be ideal. Similarly, age and gender will play a role in helping you select a new team.
-
2
Search on the internet for soccer teams in your area. Most soccer leagues will be published on the internet, and most teams will have a website which you can use to look at the quality and the nature of the team. If you cannot find anything, then try searching the website of your national football federation, which will have a "Find a team near me" section, into which you can enter your address, and it will show you a range of local sides.
-
3
Look in your area directory for indoor or outdoor soccer pitches. These will have information on soccer teams which you can contact. For example, if they run a league, then you will be able to choose from a variety of teams. They will also be able to provide you with contact information for the teams.
-
4
Search listing sites such as Craigslist where people advertise teams, and post adverts looking for players. This will provide you with some information about the character and ability of the team, so as to enable you to find a team more tailored to your needs.
-
5
Contact your local institution with sports facilities, who may also be able to provide you with information on soccer teams. Institutions such as gyms, schools and universities will usually have information on local teams which they will be able to give you.
-
6
Contact the captain or manager of the team, depending on whose contact details you can get hold of. If it is in the off-season, then ask when pre-season training is taking place. Chat to your contact about your ability, and the nature of the team which you will be playing for. Be sure that the team fits the ethos you are looking for.
-
7
Go to training or to matches to determine if the team is right for you. If you are nervous about this, then take a friend with you who will make the process less daunting. Attend a couple of training sessions or matches before you commit to any expenses, such as buying the team's shirt. This will prevent you from being out of pocket if you change your mind.
