How to Kick a Soccer Ball High & Far

Soccer, known as football in most countries outside of the United States and Canada, is a game of strength and accuracy. There are many types of kicks used in playing soccer; each requires its own method of contact with the ball. Kicking the ball with the sides of the foot is generally used for moving the ball shorter distances or passing, while longer, higher kicks require contact with the top of the shoe near the laces.

Maintain balance and composure. Plant your supporting foot carefully in relation to the ball. Keeping your supporting foot in line with the ball will provide power but the kick will be low. Placing your supporting kick slightly behind the ball will raise or loft the ball. Aim your toes at the target.

Pull your kicking leg back and then move it forward in one quick, fluid motion. Try to kick through the ball as opposed to just kicking the ball.

Lean back with your upper body as you kick the ball. "When you lean back, the ball will rise and if you lean forward your kick remain low and hard," according to Expertfootball.com. "The knee of your kicking leg has to be above or in line with the ball at the exact moment you make contact."

Follow through with the kicking leg, keeping it aligned with your target. Try landing on your kicking foot after you strike the ball to ensure a proper follow-through.
