How to Repair a Softball Bat

Deciding whether to repair a softball bat is often an easy decision; repairing metal bats is nearly impossible and and wooden bats can be repaired only if there is no structural damage to the bat, such as a crack or a split that goes through the bat. With wooden bats, be sure to check the extent of damage to your bat. Chips and small dents can be repaired but be sure to monitor the repair after each use and check for increased damage. It is best to replace a metal bat with a new one unless the repair is in the handle grip area. For a handle grip repair, you will need to apply electrical tape to the handle to refortify the gripping area.

Apply nail polish to the chipped area. Spread the polish evenly to fill in the chipped area. Allow the polish to fully dry and use sandpaper to smooth out any bumps or swells caused by the polish.

Repair a crack only if it is within the barrel part of the bat. If the crack is in the handle area you will most likely want to discard the bat since the handle is the thinnest area on your bat. To repair a barrel crack, apply liquid cement to the cracked area. Let the cement fully dry, then use sandpaper to smooth out any bumps or swells caused by the cement.

Apply electrical tape to repair torn handle grips. Re-fortify the whole grip by applying electrical tape to the entire gripping area. Be sure to check for any cracks or chips in the handle area before applying tape.
