1
Take the inside line on the base path. If possible, try to get between the fielder and the person catching the ball. Anything that forces the defense to make a good throw and catch can help the sliding runner.
-
2
Run at the base hard and fast. Approximately 8 to 10 feet from the base, drop to the ground with one leg forward. Tuck the other leg under your rear end.
-
3
Slide hard and fast with the forward leg aimed at the bag. A strong slide could potentially force the ball out of the fielder's glove.
-
4
Come up to a standing position after you make contact with the base. Avoid going into the base in a sitting position. This gives the fielder more room to tag you, and there's a good chance you will slide past the bag.
