How to Join the Amateur Softball Association of America

With over three million members, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) functions as the governing body for amateur softball in the United States. In addition to representing over a quarter million softball teams, the ASA is active with the Olympics. Follow these steps to join the Amateur Softball Association of America.

      Understand that the American Softball Association contains members of all ages, from childhood and up. The more than 90 ASA national championships range from fast-pitch for players under 10 and slow pitch for players over 75.

      Play on a local softball league. It doesn't matter whether it's through ASA or your parks and recreation office.

      Know that 85 local affiliates make up the American Softball Association. Local affiliates manage membership, organize leagues and provide clinics.

      Search the ASA Softball website for your local contact. The search window allows you to enter your state or zip code. Organized into 15 regions, the ASA lists state and metro ASA commissioners to assist with membership and questions.

      Sign your team up with the ASA by contacting the local ASA commissioner for your district. Organizationally, the districts report to the state associations, which answer to the regions and then the national office located in Oklahoma City. A Board of Directors makes decisions with the help of about 300 voting members from different aspects of softball.

      Register with the local ASA if your interest runs toward umpiring. The ASA hosts umpire clinics throughout the country.
