Instructions

Hold the bat near the end with your hands close together. Stand back from home plate so that the tip of the bat just reaches to the far edge of the plate. Place your feet shoulder width apart and perpendicular to the pitcher's mound. Do not rest the bat on your shoulder.

    • 2

Keep your eye on the ball. Begin watching the ball before it leaves the pitcher's hand.

    • 3

Hold your back elbow out and away from your body. Begin your swing by rotating your hips toward the ball. Follow with your shoulders and arms. Keep the bat level with the ground. As you swing, transfer weight from your back foot to your front foot.

Higher bat speeds produce stronger hits. Rotate the tip of the bat into the ball by bending your wrists forward as you swing.
