Smith & Wesson Dissasembly Instructions

Smith & Wesson has been producing firearms for more than 100 years, and continues to design new models and new lines of guns. Various Smith and Wesson guns are suitable for hunting everything from squirrels to brown bears. They also make personal defense pocket pistols and fine-tuned target and service pistols. The Sigma series is popular for home defense. These guns are simple and easy to use. They are available in most major calibers, and it is simple to take them apart for cleaning.

      Unload the weapon. Eject the magazine by pressing the button on the handle, just below the trigger guard. Then pull the magazine free from the handle. Holding the grip firmly in one hand, pull the slide back and inspect the chamber so you can be sure no cartridges are present.

      Pull the trigger. When you are sure the chamber is empty and the gun is unloaded, pull the trigger once.

      Engage the take-down catch. Pull the slide rearward only slightly and press the take-down catch downward at the same time. The catch is located between the trigger and the slide, on the body of the pistol. It must be pressed down from both sides of the gun.

      Remove the slide. Let the slide move forward while keeping pressure on the take-down catch. The slide should be free to slide off the front of the gun. Use caution so you don't drop the slide.

      Remove the barrel, guide rod and spring. The guide rod and spring are apparent on the underside of the slide. Compress the spring slightly and lift them out. The barrel will then be loose in the slide and can be lifted out as well.
