Sight Alignment for Firearms Training

Sight alignment is key to accurate shooting. It is the basis for every good shot. Even if all other fundamentals of shooting are executed correctly, without proper sight alignment, the effort is futile.
  1. Principal Importance

    • Aligned with the target

National Rifle Association (NRA) training teaches several fundamentals of shooting. These vary slightly depending on what type of gun is being used; the common elements are position, grip, breath control, sight alignment, trigger squeeze, follow through and recovery. The NRA teaches that sight alignment and trigger squeeze are the two most important of these.

    Focus

    • The entire body must work together to maintain an aligned hold

The most important factor to success in shooting is the ability to concentrate. Once ideal sight alignment is achieved, the shooter must concentrate on maintaining it during the trigger squeeze.

    Concentration

    • Projection

Shooting is as much a mental undertaking as a physical one. Champion shooters have an innate ability to maintain alignment and project the bullet perfectly into the target; this is what separates them from other shooters.
