Compression Pants vs. Running Shorts
-
Studies
-
According to an Australian study published in the "Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport," sprinters wearing compression tights experienced reduced muscle soreness. A 2006 study in France, published in the "International Journal of Sports Medicine," compared the effects of compression tights with those of conventional running shorts. The researchers concluded that wearing compression tights may enhance runners' overall circulation and reduce their energy expenditure.
Features
-
Compression running tights, like ordinary tights, provide warmth and protection from the wind. They also use compression to provide support for the muscles. This results in increased comfort during the run, and reduced post-workout soreness. Compression tights come in different thicknesses and lengths.
Considerations
-
Conventional running shorts function as comfortable, athletic clothing, without the additional benefits that compression garments provide. In 2010, average costs for compression tights ranged from $30 to $110.
