Bell Motivator Bicycle Trainer Instructions

Tapping into the craze for indoor bicycle trainers, Bell (perhaps most famous for their line of bicycle helmets) has created the Bell Motivator Basic Indoor Trainer. Like other trainers, the Bell Motivator allows a cyclist to ride and train in a stationary position. Trainers are convenient whenever cold or wet weather conspire to make riding outdoors uncomfortable or even dangerous. The Bell Motivator trainer is easy to set up and use.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a spot large enough to comfortably fit both your bicycle and the trainer. Remember, when using the trainer, you’ll probably be sweating, so find a surface that can be easily wiped down after each trainer session. Placing a towel evenly beneath your bike and trainer will also work.

    • 2

Substitute the rear wheel axle skewer on your bike with the one provided with the Bell Motivator trainer. The provided skewer ensures proper fit between wheel and trainer. If you’re unsure how to remove the skewer from your wheel, simply open the quick release arm and unthread the nut from the other end. Reverse this process using the provided skewer.

    • 3

Lift the bike by the back of the seat post (just below the seat) and fit the left tip of the rear axle into the notch in the left arm on the trainer.

    • 4

Turn the oversized star-shaped nut on the right trainer arm counterclockwise. This will allow you to adjust the arm length. To adjust arm length, twist the arm clockwise until the tip of the arm fits against the right tip of the rear wheel axle. Re-tighten the star-shaped nut once you’re done (this will fix the arm in place).

    • 5

Turn the knob at the back of the resistance unit clockwise so that the unit is flush against the wheel of the bicycle. The more you tighten the unit, the more resistance you’ll encounter when pedaling the bike.

    • 6

Sit atop the bicycle and start pedaling. If there’s too much or not enough resistance, hop off and adjust the knob on the resistance unit as needed.
