How to Attach a Halo Swim Template to a Standard Bench

Out of the water, swimmers can practice and improve their stroke using Halo swim products. Halo's entire swim training system comes complete with a fold-down bench and the swim template, which is a tool that trains a swimmer's stroke action. Some retailers offer the swim template for individual purchase. However, it was meant to pair exclusively with the Halo bench. Many swim shops that sell the template categorically do not sell equipment to attach it to a standard bench. Resourceful Halo template owners can find several alternatives to circumvent this, which range from temporary to permanent.

  • Velcro Fabric Fusion adhesive
  • Mini-magnets

Instructions

  1. Velcro

    • 1

Employ Velcro to temporarily attach the template to the bench. The adhesive fabric company offers Fabric Fusion, which is ideal for attaching fabric to non-fabric surfaces.

    • 2

Measure and mark with a pencil the ideal positioning of the Halo swim template to the bench.

    • 3

Iron on two short lengths of the Fabric Fusion adhesive to the Halo swim template.

    • 4

Glue two lengths of Fabric Fusion to the underside of the bench. Position the lengths so that they match up with those on the swim template.

    • 5

Press the Halo swim template onto the bench, lining up the Velcro lengths. When you're done with the template, pull it off the bench and store for later use.

    Magnets

    • 6

Affix magnets to the template and bench, as another option for makeshift attachment. Magnets will only work for standard benches with undersides that are made of steel or metal.

    • 7

Measure the ideal positioning of the Halo swim template to the bench.

    • 8

Attach mini-magnets, or a length of magnetic backing, to the Halo swim template. Place the magnets or backing in the position you've previously measured. A hot glue gun is the most effective way to attach the magnets.

    • 9

Press the Halo swim template onto the bench when you'd like to use it. Remove the template when done.

    Glue

    • 10

As a permanent attachment option, glue the template to the bench. Find a glue that is designed to attach fabric to metal. 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Spray Adhesive comes recommended as a fast-working glue.

    • 11

Lightly clean the bottom of the bench with steel wool or sandpaper.

    • 12

Ascertain the best position for the swim template on the bench. Mark this spot with a pencil.

    • 13

Apply or spray glue onto the marked portion of the swim template, and also onto the underside of the bench.

    • 14

Hold the template to the bench's underside for at least 30 seconds. Release and allow it to sit for an additional four minutes. The template and bench are now ready for use.
