Differences Between Silicone & Latex Swimcaps

Both latex and silicone swim caps protect your hair from chlorine and sun and can help you swim faster. Comparing the particular advantages of each type can help you decide which material suits you best.
  1. Comfort and Fit

    • Latex stretches to virtually any size, so latex caps are easily worn by both adults and children. It is not a proper choice, however, for people with allergies to rubber or latex. A silicone cap is soft and breathable and unlikely to pull your hair when you take it off. Because silicone is slick, a tight fit is necessary to keep the cap from slipping off. A silicone cap may fit too snugly to accommodate long hair.

    Durability

    • While latex stretches more, silicone is more resistant to tearing and so more durable overall. Latex is easier to personalize with school or team identities.

    Cost

    • Silicone caps are typically more expensive, up to three times the price of latex.
