Fun Ways to Put on Swim Caps

Putting on swimming caps can be a painful task. The latex cap always seems to pull your hair as you put it on. Each fun way to put on a swimming cap is a variation on the typical cap-donning process where the swimmer holds the swimming cap open with both hands, places the front interior of the cap at the top of her forehead-- just below the hairline--and pulls the back of the swimming cap over their head and towards the nape of their neck. Make donning your swimming cap fun by trying these ideas.
  1. Painlessly Fun

    • This pain-free cap-donning technique will let you have fun simply because you aren't wincing at your pulling hair. Girls with long hair know that putting on swimming caps can leave tears in their eyes, so prevent the pain by pulling your hair back into a ponytail and getting your hair wet. Insert both hands into the swimming cap and spread your fingers to widen the cap. Slip the swimming cap vertically down over the crown of your head until your fingers are flush with your head. Carefully slip your fingers downward, out from under the swimming cap.

    Inside-Out

    • One of the most notoriously creative ways to put on a swimming cap is the inside-out technique. A swimmer wets his or her hair and fills the inside of the swimming cap with water. The swimmer or a helping friend then drops the swimming cap on his or her head. The weight of the water pushes the swimming cap onto their head. Now the swimmer must only make fine adjustments.

    Shark Fin

    • For girls and boys who have ponytails, make yourself a creative swimming cap shark fin that will be the rage of your swim team. Simply pull your hair back into a ponytail, wet it, and twist it. Pull the ponytail forward towards your brow. Place the swimming cap on over the ponytail to create a small ridge along the top of your head. This will look like a shark fin sticking out of the water as you swim.

    Swimming Cap Circle

    • Transform the donning of your swimming cap into a social event by creating a swimming cap circle. Gather all of your swim team members and have them stand in a circle. Each swimmer hands his or her cap to the swimmer behind. Each swimmer in the circle puts the swimming cap on the swimmer in front of them, transforming this mundane task into a team-bonding experience.
