How to Design a Swim Cap

Create a unique design for your team's swim caps to evoke team unity and spirit. Swimming caps help swimmers cheer for their fellow swim team members. If you are planning to design your team's swim caps, you should take into consideration the school or team colors and whether you would like the caps to show the team's name or mascot.

      Place a swimming cap on a piece of blank paper. Trace around the edges of the swim cap to give yourself a profile outline of a swimming cap, where you will draw the pattern.

      Look at the team's paraphernalia. Generally teams have two designated colors. One of the simplest ways to design a swimming cap is to have one of the team colors be the swimming cap's base color and reserve the other color for the writing or logo. Because printing companies generally charge extra for additional printed colors, using only one color for the logo will save you and the team members money.

      Identify any logos, mascots, or slogans that you would like to include on the swimming cap. Make sure to position the design on the side profile of the cap so that it can be viewed from the pool's sidelines. Make the logo large enough to be viewed from a distance.

      Draw the design onto the traced profile of the swimming cap. Color the logo and background. If you would prefer to use a logo that is on a computer, print it out and position it where you would like it to go on the swimming cap.

      Write down the color you would like for the base of the cap and the colors you would like for the logo onto the rough draft design. Make sure to include what style of swimming cap you would like to outfit the team with. Latex swim caps are generally used as team caps because of their low price.
