1
Figure out how much space is available for a tennis backboard. A singles tennis court is 27 feet wide, so the perfect backboard is the same width, but this is unrealistic for many garden installations. Make the backboard as large as can be managed. The backboard will also need to be at least 6 feet high.
-
2
Cut the material to size using a band saw or handsaw. If using lumber the merchant will be able to cut the material down to size as well.
-
3
Measure 3 feet up the backboard from the bottom and draw a horizontal line at this level to represent the net. A single line is adequate, but to make it more realistic include the net meshing as well.
-
4
Draw a line vertically up the middle of the board to indicate the center line of the court. This is not necessary, but gives a better idea of where exactly the ball is going to go.
-
5
Attach the backboard to a solid surface before using it. It can be attached with screws to a wooden fence, hung on brackets or fastened to wire mesh fencing. It depends entirely on where it is being used.
