Tennis Undergarment Rules

Standards for professional tennis players' uniforms have remained traditional since the sport's beginnings, even with regard to undergarments. It's essential for avid tennis players who belong to a tennis club or league to be aware of the regulations and rules that govern the wearing of these items.
  1. Type

    • Tennis players can only wear certain types of undergarments during a professional game. Acceptable undergarments for women include bras, sports bras, panties and underwear. For men, underwear and a white singlet or muscle shirt will suffice.

    Color

    • Tennis regulations require that men and women's undergarments be solid in color. Many tennis clubs and leagues encourage players to wear white undergarments so that they stay consistent with all uniform requirements.

    Length

    • The length of a woman's undergarment can not be longer than her tennis dress. Exceptions to this rule apply between the months of September and June, when players are permitted to wear warm-up suits, leggings, jackets and sweaters.
