How to Estimate Concrete Finishing Costs for a Tennis Court

Concrete tennis courts comprise mainly four inches of concrete, but also require a smooth, graded sub-base, and the proper surfacing layers. Calculating the cost of finishing the concrete for a tennis court is therefore a matter of calculating the cost for each different surfacing layer based on the surface area of the court.

      Multiply the length of the playing surface by its width to calculate the surface area in square feet. The standard length of a tennis court, including the out-of-bounds area, is 120 feet within the fenced area, and the standard width is 60 feet fenced, though you will also want to take into account the skirt area outside of the fence if you have poured concrete with an extra boundary.

      Divide the area of the court surface by number of feet that each can of acrylic concrete primer (the first finishing layer) can cover to give the number of cans you'll need. A good rule of thumb is about 100 square feet per gallon. Thus, for a 60-foot-by-120-foot court (7,200 square feet), you'd need about 72 gallons of primer.

      Divide the area of the court surface by the number of feet each can of acrylic concrete tennis court surfacer can cover to give the number of cans you'll need. Again this will vary for each product. You'll need to roughly double this number because standard tennis courts require two coats of acrylic surfacer; note that the second coat can usually be spread somewhat more thinly than the first.

      Repeat Step 3 based on the coverage per can of court paint, which also requires two coats.

      Add the cost of one gallon of line paint, which is typically all that is required on a properly surfaced court.

      Add the cost of two rollers per surfacing step (six rollers) and a 2-inch paintbrush and two rolls of masking tape for line painting.
