Standing Long Jump: The Directions
The standing long jump, also known as the broad jump, is a test used to measure explosive leg strength. The test is performed by standing at a start line then jumping forward off both feet as far as possible. It is a useful tool to measure how well an athlete is improving physically. It was a Summer Olympic event in early 20th century. The world record is held by Norwegian Arne Tvervaag, who jumped 12 feet, 2 inches (3.71 meters) in 1968. An average jump for adults is approximately 8 feet, 2 1/2 inches (2.5 meters) for males and 7 feet, 2 1/2 inches (2.2 meters) for females, while an excellent jump is approximately 9 feet, 10 inches (3.0 meters) for males and 9 feet, 2 inches (2.8 meters) for females.
