How to Do The Long Jump
Instructions
-
-
1
Stand at the jumping point just before the sand starts and take 21 long paces to provide adequate distance between you and the sand.
-
2
Perform a standing start, which is when you immediately go from standing to running. Some long jumpers prefer to do a walking start. Experiment with different starting techniques to see which one works best for you.
-
3
Gain as much speed as you can control. Make sure to stay in a straight line and keep the speed consistent once you've reached the peak.
-
4
Jump into the sand, making sure to push off the take-off board with one foot to accelerate the jump. Once in the air, keep both feet together in front of you so that you can have a clean landing. Allow your arms to windmill around your body naturally to keep your balance.
-
5
Land the jump, making sure your heels are as far away from the take-off board as possible. Keep your hamstrings flexed as you land to avoid falling backwards into the sand.
