Is it Legal to Kick a Volleyball?

Kicking the volleyball is legal in some leagues of play but is illegal in others.

  1. USA Volleyball

    • The USA Volleyball 2009-2011 Domestic Competition Regulations for indoor and beach volleyball say that the ball may touch any part of the body, including the feet, during play.

    Illegal Kicking

    • In other volleyball organizations, like the women's fours volleyball at The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University, kicking the ball in any circumstance is illegal and results in a sideout.

    Kicking the Ball Outside of Play

    • The volleyball rules at Carnegie Mellon University suggest avoiding kicking the volleyball unnecessarily outside of play, as the ball can become misshapen.
