Volleyball Teamwork Activities
-
Switch Off
-
During warm-up before each practice, have each player warm up with a different player so players won't warm up with the same player before each practice. This will help each player identify strengths and weaknesses of every player. This is also a good way to help with team bonding by having players interact off the court.
Switch Roles
-
Get involved with practices. For example, have the team coach practice one day while the coach of the team acts as a player. Have each teammate coach one drill for the day and have the team with the coach participate in each drill. This will force each teammate to listen to her peers. Also, having the coach participate as a player is fun and fosters team bonding.
Drills
-
Rather than having drills during practice that involve each teammate individually, split the team into separate entities and make a contest out of the drill. For example, split the team into equal teams of three for Queen of the Court. Have two teams at a time play a scrimmage game. The first team to gets a point stays on the court, while the team that loses the point gets off the court. Then have the next team go against the team that's still on the court. Continue this until a team has hit a set number of points or a certain amount of time has passed.
Fund-raising
-
Have your team participate in fund-raising. Most teams need some sort of money to help pay for uniforms, equipment and transportation to games. Fund-raisers like car washes, bake sales or holding a dinner at the school can help the team bond as well as raise money.
