Volleyball Net Regulations

Volleyball net regulations are the same for both indoor and outdoor games. The net regulations for a men's volleyball game is different than that of a women's game, while co-ed games follow the men's regulations. Volleyball net regulations can also vary depending on age.
  1. Net Placement

    • The volleyball net is placed in the center of the volleyball court. The volleyball court is 18 meters (59 feet).

    Net Dimensions

    • A volleyball net is 1 meter wide. A volleyball net must span the width of the court. A volleyball court measures 9 meters (29 feet 6 inches) wide.

    Indoor Net Height

    • The height of a volleyball net is measured from the center of the net. The measurement is taken from the top of the net to the floor and must measure 2.43 meters (7 feet 11 5/8 inches) for a men's game and 2.24 meters (7 feet 4 1/8 inches) for a woman's game.

    Outdoor Net Height

    • The net height is the same for volleyball played inside, on sand or on grass. On sand, the measurement is the same and is taken from the top of the net to the level-raked sand while on grass the measurement is taken from the top of the net to the ground.

    Net Ends

    • Both ends of a volleyball net must have the same height. The height of the ends of the net cannot be more than 2 centimeters (3/4 of an inch) higher than center height of the net.

    Children

    • The height of a volleyball net for boys ages 10 and-under is 1.98 meters (6 feet 6 inches). Volleyball net height for boys ages 11 to 12 and girls ages 10 to 12 is 2.13 meters (7 feet).
