Height of a Professional Volleyball Net

The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FVIB) determines official volleyball rules and regulations. The dimensions of the playing area are very specific, although they vary according to whether the court is for men's or women's volleyball.

  1. The Net

    • The exact and official height of a professional volleyball net stands at 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women.

    Considerations

    • The height is measured from the center of the playing court, and the net at the sidelines must be the same height as at the center (i.e., it does not sink, but is instead pulled taut).

    Features

    • The dimensions of the net are 1 meter wide by 9.5 to 10 meters long. It is composed of 10 square centimeters of black mesh.

      A flexible cable pulls the top of the net tight across the playing area and attaches to a post on each side, while a rope fastens the bottom of the net to each post.

      The posts supporting the net must be 2.55 meters tall and placed 0.5 to 1 meter outside of the sidelines, fixed to the ground without wires.
