How to Plug a Bodyboard

For those who prefer to be up-close-and-personal with the crashing surf, bodyboarding is an ideal sport. The boards are made from a durable polyethylene or polypropylene foam core and are usually slightly wider and longer than an average rider's torso. Wax may be applied to the front and rear portions of the board for stability when kneeling on the board. Most riders sport a leash around one of their ankles to keep the board attached while in the water.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip your bodyboard over so that the bottom side faces up. Measure roughly 6 to 8 inches down from the nose of the board, ensuring the measuring tape is centered in the middle of the nose. Make a circular pencil mark at this point.

    • 2

Place the tip of a Phillips screwdriver onto the pencil mark and apply firm downward pressure to the top of the handle. Push the screwdriver all the way through the core of the board until you feel it hit the topside.

    • 3

Hit the handle with force to puncture the topside of the board and complete the hole. Twist the screwdriver back and forth to finish the hole.

    • 4

Push both ends of the plug through each side of the hole. The plug with the attachment ropes should be pushed through the hole on the topside.

    • 5

Screw the bottom plate of the plug into the top plate using the edge of a large coin or a large slotted screwdriver. Once finished, both plates of the plug should be slightly recessed into the top and bottom sides of the board.

    • 6

Attach the ropes protruding from the topside plug to the stainless steel ring at the end of your leash. Depending on the specific leash and plugs you're using, attachment procedure may vary.
