How to Drill a Bodyboard

If your bodyboard comes loose from your grip, it will likely be lost amid the crashing waves forever--unless you have a leash attached to it. To attach a leash to the board, you must puncture a small hole into the bottom of the board with a screwdriver or electric drill. Once the leash is attached, you can wear it around your wrist or ankle to keep your board nearby as you ride the waves.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your board so its top side faces up. Lie on the board and mimic your riding position to determine where the leash will feel most comfortable.

    • 2

Make a pencil mark where you decide to mount the leash. Many riders place the leash plug about eight inches down from the center of the nose.

    • 3

Hold the tip of your Phillips head screwdriver over the pencil mark. Puncture the top of the board and apply firm downward pressure until the screwdriver protrudes from the other side.

    • 4

Twist the screwdriver several times to widen the hole. Pull out the screwdriver slowly from the hole.

    • 5

Insert the larger bottom plate of your leash plug into the hole from the underside of the board. Insert the smaller top plate into the topside of the board. Use a coin to screw the bottom plate into the top. Once secure, both plates should be slightly recessed into the board.

Attach the leash to the plug according the instructions included with your kit. Attachment procedures may vary among manufacturers.
