Parts of a One Blade Knife

A one blade knife differs from pocket knives, having only one cutting tool being present on the device. They all basically have the same formation, although some knives, such as hunting or dive knives, may have more features than the others--such as a guard. How you will use a one blade knife will determine its design.
  1. Blade

    • The main section of the knife is the tool section (the blade). The blade, constructed from metal, extends from the handle. Blades come designed for different tasks such as filleting, carving, skinning or chopping.

    Point

    • The point of the knife is the tip of the blade used for piercing. It is a dangerous part of the knife. Keep it sheathed or covered when you're not using it.

    Cutting Edge

    • The cutting edge is the sharpened side of the blade. Some blade cutting edges may be serrated, depending on what they are intended for cutting --such as a steak knife to cut through meat.

    Guard

    • The guard protects the user's hand from sliding onto the blade during use.You commonly find a guard on sports knives rather than those used in the kitchen. Guards can come in various shapes and sizes.

    Handle

    • The handle is the point where the user grips the blade. You can construct handles from metal, wood, plastic, polypropylene, or even old tires in some countries.

    Butt

    • The butt is the tip of the handle end of the knife. In some cases the butt has a screw cap, concealing a compartment in the handle.
