How do I Troubleshoot Problems with Sherwood Source Dive Computers?

1
Replace the battery. If the computer will not turn on or the "Lo Bat" sign has appeared on the computer's screen, then the battery needs to be replaced. On the newer models, turn the computer over and open the battery hatch with a coin (not a screwdriver), turning it counterclockwise in the groove. Only attempt this if this battery hatch is present, or consult a Sherwood dealer for older models. Remove the old O-ring and batteries.

2
Install two new lithium 3-volt batteries. Place a new silicone-lubricated O-ring at the base of the threads in the battery hatch. Apply the cover and turn it clockwise to seal the new batteries in the computer. Activate the unit, which should perform a full diagnostic and battery check.

Set the computer to the correct mode. If you keep seeing "bottom time" being logged on the screen during a dive when you want the computer to calculate your no-decompression time, this can be solved in one of two ways. The first is to get the computer out of "alternate mode," resetting it to "no-decompression mode." To do this, access the mode menu and set the dive mode. This can only be done on the surface, as the computer cannot start to calculate a dive after it has already started. This can also happen if the computer is stuck in "gauge mode."

4
Reset the computer. If the computer is exposed to depths or dive times that go beyond its limits and decompression calculations, it may lock itself into what Sherwood terms as "immediate or delayed violation." This means that only "gauge mode" can be used on the computer. Due to safety implications, the only solution is to allow the computer to reset itself. It will begin to work again after 24 hours. A timer will start after 12 hours, telling you how long before the computer can resume normal operations.

5
Remove salt deposits from the computer. These can cause the button to stick. If salt deposits remain after washing the computer in fresh water, then attempt to remove them by using lukewarm water and if necessary add a little vinegar to make a weak acid bath. This will remove any excess salt crystals and free the button for use.
