The Depreciation of Snowmobiles

During winter in North America, snowmobilers come out in full force. You will find many areas with trails and tracks laid out especially for snowmobiles, some of them in some of the most beautiful and isolated corners of Canada and the United States.
  1. New Snowmobiles

    • There are many popular models of snowmobiles available from snowmobile or automotive dealers. Depending on the size, quality and power you are looking for, new snowmobiles prices fall in an average range of US$5,000 to $15,000.

    Depreciation

    • Snowmobiles tend to depreciate at a similar rate to cars, with a steep decline on new snowmobiles as soon as they are taken off the lot. In a sense, it is a passenger vehicle with an engine and moving parts much like a car.

    Governmental Guidelines

    • The state of Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources administers a snowmobile grant program, under which it issued guidelines for eligible depreciation costs. Their snowmobile program guidelines specify that a depreciation rate of 20 percent should be used.
