How to Flood an Outdoor Rink
Outdoor ice rinks are a lot of fun in the winter for casual skating or playing hockey with the kids down the street. Flooding your own outdoor ice rink saves you money as well, since you won't have to pay for ice time on public skating rinks. Outdoor rinks are easy to build and easy to maintain, allowing for you and your family to enjoy the entire winter season right in your own backyard.

1
Select the right weather conditions to flood your outdoor ice rink. Outdoor rinks flood the best in -10 degrees Celsius or 14 degrees Fahrenheit over a period of three or four days. Use a weather website such as Weather.com to assess weather conditions in your area.
-
2
Spray your outdoor ice rink down with water from a hose. Flooding it with 1/2 to 1 inch of water works best over a period of three or four nights. This will build up a nice base for your ice rink.

3
Keep your outdoor ice rink flooded throughout the winter, as weather conditions permit. When the ice turns to slush, you will have to flood your rink again during optimal weather conditions.
