1
Find a suitable amount of flat ground space in your backyard and clear the area of stones and other debris. WWE wrestling rings usually measure 18 feet by 18 feet, but you may need to adjust the size to a smaller square depending on the room you have available. Mark out the area with a measuring tape and place four markers, such as pencils, in the locations of the corners.
-
2
Use a post digger to excavate four equal-sized 12-inch holes, one in each corner. Add a quantity of mixed cement to each hole and insert a 4-inch by 4-inch ground spike into each one, ensuring they are positioned squarely. Leave the cement to set overnight.
-
3
Cut four 5-foot lengths of 4-inch by 4-inch lumber and insert each one into a ground spike, banging the tops down firmly with a mallet to ensure they are fully sunken. Insert three screw-in hooks with a hole diameter of 2 inches into the outer corners of each of the posts at heights of 12 inches, 29 inches and 46 inches.
-
4
Cover the floor with cuts of plywood so the inner ring area is completely covered. To make handling more manageable, purchase nine pieces of plywood measuring 6 feet by 6 feet. Cover gaps in the plywood with gaffer tape before covering the entire surface with 2-inch-thick foam. Ensure the foam is rolled out evenly before cutting away excess material at the edges. Stick the edges of the foam to the plywood with gaffer tap to keep it in position.
-
5
Pass three 75-foot lengths of 2-inch rope through the holes of the screw-in hooks at the 12-inch, 29-inch and 46-inch intervals until the ends meet up with each other. Pull the ropes until they are completely taut and secure the ends together tightly with twine. Test the ropes gently by leaning against them to ensure they won't give way when the wrestling action begins.
-
6
Secure four pieces of 2-inch-thick foam to the inside corners of each post with gaffer tape. The foam should be cut to a length of just over 4 feet to ensure there is enough padding to fit over the top of each ring post to help prevent head injuries.
-
7
Decorate the floor of the ring with old blankets or sheets painted in WWE logos to add authenticity to your design. Remember to fit decorative covers to hide the 2-inch foam on the ring posts as well, for a completely professional finish.
