Instructions

    • 1

Gather a group of teammates and break up into three or four small groups. Provide each group with a paper and pencil.

    • 2

Designate a leader for each group. The leader will be in charge of writing down the ideas that others may have. To start, the leaders should write the name of the team, name of the school, school colors and team mascot.

    • 3

Brainstorm and write a list of words related to your school. After writing down the basics, have your fellow cheerleaders branch off from those topics to come up with new ideas. For example, if your school mascot is a bee, a few ideas may be bumble, fly, sting or honey.

    • 4

Write rhymes for the words on the list. Use a rhyming dictionary to help you. For example, if you wrote "bumble" for a bee mascot, a rhyming word might be "rumble." Develop longer passages, based on the connections you find between these rhyming words.

    • 5

Bring all of the groups together to discuss your ideas. Write down the best ideas and vote on which ones the team likes best.

    • 6

Write out the best rhymes for your cheers. For example, "We're the bees, our name is Bumble, come on over when you're ready to rumble."

    • 7

Practice together until everyone memorizes the cheer.
