How to Make Texas Size Cheerleading Bows

As the saying goes, "Everything is bigger in Texas," including accessories! High school and college team sports are very popular in Texas, and cheerleading is no exception. Cheerleaders often wear accessories in their team colors to coordinate with their uniforms, including cosmetics, face paint and hair items. Hair bows make great gifts to give to the team or just to wear yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on the size of your finished bow and cut the ribbon to twice the desired length. Add layers if desired and stack them on a flat surface. Mark the center of the length of ribbon with a small piece of tape.

    • 2

Thread the needle. Pick up the ribbon layers and form them into a loop, overlapping the ends. Push the needle up through the layered ends and then into the center of the loop, using the taped area as a guide.

    • 3

Pull the thread taut and wrap it around the bow, pinching the midpoint together. Wrap several times to secure the bow, then knot and tie off the thread. Glue the bow to the french clip and let cool.

    • 4

Cut a small piece of ribbon and glue it over the center of the bow to cover the thread. Use the fabric paint to add polka dots, stripes or your team name. Let dry completely before wearing.
