Cheer Team Ideas
-
Uniforms
-
For high school cheer teams, the uniforms should be relatively modest. The participants are teenage girls, so not too much skin should be exposed. The uniforms can still be flattering. Try pairing a top and a skirt. If the midriff is exposed, get matching color leotards for the cheerleaders to wear underneath. For college teams, the uniforms do not have to be as modest, but should not be distracting. For example, leotards would not have to worn to cover midriffs.
Cheers
-
The more cheers a cheer team has memorized, the better. People get bored with the same cheers time after time. One way to defeat that boredom is to come up with something new and fresh. Have the cheer team members write down possible cheers. Give them a deadline of one month. The members can then vote on the best one and work on establishing a routine for it. Also, do not be afraid to do a blast from the past and resurrect old cheers.
Pep Rallies
-
Pep rallies are all about amping up everyone's enthusiasm before a game. These usually occur during homecoming or championship games. The rallies showcase the team and the players. Activities in which the players participate can occur. The activity should center around the theme of the rally. A "cream the other team" theme can have the players surprise the coach by throwing whipped cream pies at him.
You can also have the players perform one of your cheer team's cheers.
Dances
-
Cheer team dances are primarily done at pep rallies or are performed as halftime shows during games. The dances can also be centered around a theme. For a fighting theme, incorporate some martial arts inspired dance moves into the performance. Time periods are a common theme during homecoming weeks. Center a dance around that time period. For example, for a 1950s theme, use 1950s music, outfits and dance moves.
Activities
-
One activity the cheerleaders can do together that does not involve cheering on a team is fundraising. The fundraising should primarily be for the team, the funds which would go toward such items as new uniforms or pep rally supplies. This can be done by selling magazine subscriptions or cookie dough. The cheer team members can also go to a cheer camp. This will give them new ideas, strengthen friendships and help with their athleticism.
