How to Prepare for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Tryouts

1
Sharpen your dance technique in the time leading up to auditions and practice performing in front of others. In addition to technique, judges will want to see showmanship, personality, poise, and high energy. Have someone you trust, preferably another cheerleader, critique you on each of these qualities.
-
2
Exercise according to a fitness plan that's suited to your body type. Treat the sport of cheerleading the same way other athletes treat theirs and train as often as necessary. Tryouts are usually held in May, according to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Web site, so make your workouts increasingly challenging in the weeks leading up to the big day.
-
3
Set up a nutrition plan. Cheerleading is as rigorous as any other sport and you'll need energy to be able to last through auditions.
-
4
Prepare yourself mentally by practicing positive affirmations. If you believe that you were made to cheer for the Cowboys, you'll go into auditions with an air of confidence that's sure to impress judges.
-
5
Buy new tryout clothing that flatters your body, as recommended by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Web site. You'll be required to wear a midriff-baring halter top with shorts. The Cowboys partner with GK Elite Cheerleading Apparel, so wear that brand if you can. If you're unsure about the fit, try the clothing on and dance in it to make sure it's just right.
-
6
Plan your relocation to Dallas before tryouts. You don't have to make any permanent decisions like quitting your job, but if you make the squad, you must be prepared to live full-time in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
-
7
Pack a day-bag before you head to tryouts. It should include your driver's license, food or snacks for the day, water, personal hygiene items and cosmetics for touch up, and an extra set of tryout clothing. Plan to be at the tryout facility all day long.
