How to Stay in Cheerleading Shape Over the Summer

Staying in shape for the cheerleading squad over the summer is a challenge. Long days without a structured schedule means more opportunity to lose muscle. Staying in shape and ready for the fall cheer season means staying active and keeping a healthy lifestyle even during the slow months of summer.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat a balanced diet. Summer means more temptation to indulge in cold treats and unhealthy snacks. Keep a balanced diet during summer months and limit sweets to the occasional treat.

    • 2

Keep up a regular cardio vascular workout schedule. Running, swimming and cycling are all great ways to keep your cardiovascular endurance up to speed.

    • 3

Do regular strength training. Just because school's out doesn't mean strength training ends. Work leg muscles regularly through weights and resistance training and don't leave out the upper body.

    • 4

Stretch those muscles. Regular stretching through yoga, Pilates or with a personal trainer is a great way to stay limber all summer long.

    • 5

Consider becoming a cheerleading camp counselor. Lots of communities offer cheerleading camps for young cheerleading enthusiasts. Volunteer to be a counselor or get a summer job as a trainer at a cheerleading camp.
