Instructions

  1. Creating a Cheerleader Training Program

    • 1

Get your squad on a workout schedule. With all the jumps, stunts and tumbling cheerleaders do, they must be fit and have strong muscles to prevent injury. Cheerleaders should incorporate gym time into every practice along with cardio and light weight training. Consult a physical trainer or physical education teacher if your coach isn't sure how to put together a work out regimen.

    • 2

Set up a cheers and chants workshop during one practice. Drill all of the chants and cheers that you do at games and make sure that each cheerleader is up to par, especially in precision with arm movements and kicks.

    • 3

Put together a jumps workshop during one practice. Stand in a circle and have each cheerleader taking turns doing jumps in the middle. Jumps that should be practiced include the toe touch, hurdler, front hurdler and pike. Make suggestions on how each cheerleader can improve their jumps.

    • 4

Set up a stunts workshop for one full practice. During this workshop, try to bring in a competition level cheerleader or someone who is known as an expert for cheerleading stunts. Then, practice and perfect the stunts you already have and incorporate a new stunt. Make sure that all movements are precise and all tosses, falls and stunt constructions are smooth.

    • 5

Stretch before and after each workshop and gym work outs. This will help prevent injuries.
