How to Become an NFL Cheerleader

The life of an NFL cheerleader may seem glamorous, with all the adoring fans and being in the spotlight of some of the grandest athletic events in the world. However, what most do not know is all the hard work that they expend to become an NFL cheerleader. Even though it is extremely difficult, with the right talent and effort a person can become an NFL cheerleader.

Instructions

    • 1

Have the correct personality type to be a cheerleader. Cheerleaders have to be cheery every single minute on the job. Cheerleaders can have bad days or just not feel up to it, but cheerleaders are active and happy at all times on the job.

    • 2

Possess the ability to dance in many different disciplines. Cheerleaders often have a dancing background in ballet, jazz, tap, modern and classical dancing.

    • 3

Be in very good physical condition. NFL Cheerleaders must perform complicated and physically challenging dance moves for an entire three to four hour game.

    • 4

Locate an NFL cheerleader tryout that is close to where you live. Every year each NFL team holds open tryouts where a person will dance, cheer and interview for the team's head of cheerleading.

    • 5

Attend a local NFL cheerleader workshop so you will get a better idea about the job. Some home cities of these NFL teams hold cheerleader workshops to better prepare you for the audition. See the resources section for more information.

    • 6

Go to an NFL cheerleader tryout and complete the requirements of the interview successfully. In the tryout, there will be an interview and dance competition. Each time you must survive a cut until you are one of the finalists, after which a panel will choose which person, if any, will be an NFL cheerleader.
