How to Become the Head Cheerleader

Every cheerleading squad has a head cheerleader, someone the other girls can look to as a leader. With dedication and practice, you can become the head cheerleader of your squad. Remember, the head cheerleader is not necessarily the most popular girl, but the one who works hardest. Being the head cheerleader is really something to cheer about.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice, practice and practice. Know the cheers and motions. Put your heart and soul into cheering. Don't just go through the motions. Yell loud and clear when the cheer calls for it.

    • 2

Condition your body for cheerleading. Take gymnastics and do core-strengthening exercises. Increase your flexibility. Be fit and athletic.

    • 3

Help your fellow cheerleaders. If someone is having a tough time learning a cheer, take extra time to go over the motions with them.

    • 4

Assist your coaches. Start practices. Lead the other cheerleaders through routines and cheers. Be the voice of the squad when communicating with the coaches.

    • 5

Create cheers. Make suggestions that could make a cheer better. Add new moves to existing routines and see if the coaches will want to incorporate your suggestions. Don't be afraid to speak up.
