How to Dress for Cheerleading Tryouts

When going to cheerleading tryouts, you want to make the best impression possible. It is important to have all the right moves, but it is equally important to dress the part so you make a great first impression. When you dress for cheerleading tryouts, you want to look like you're already a team cheerleader.

Instructions

Wear a cheerleading uniform if you have one. If you were a cheerleader last year and the outfit still fits, wear it. You'll look like you're already a member of the squad. If last year's uniform is too loose, have it altered for a proper fit. However, if the outfit is too tight, don't wear it. It won't look good and the last thing you need is a split seam during tryouts.

Sport some comfortable spandex that lets you move well. Sweats are baggy and not very flattering. Spandex clings closer to your body and moves with you so your moves, not your clothes, get the judge's attention. If you're uncomfortable in a spandex top, add a well fitting tank over it, preferably with the team name or mascot emblazoned on it.

Arrive wearing the team's colors. This simple but effective trick gives you a subtle edge over competitors. It shows team spirit even before you're officially on the team.

Secure long hair up and off your shoulders. Wear a ponytail, not a bun. Not only can you snag long hair during cheerleading moves, but also a ponytail portrays spirit and excitement. Apply makeup sparingly, with a natural look. Don't wear jewelry except for perhaps small earrings.

Choose simple athletic shoes with a slim look. Most running shoes look clunky and can limit your ability to move.
