1
Prepare for cheerleading tryouts well in advance. Many cheerleaders start their cheerleading training several years before trying out. Enroll in cheerleading and tumbling classes at a gym to gain experience. These classes will teach you the fundamentals of cheerleading.
-
2
Sign up for try outs at your school. Your school will post or announce try out information. Put your name on the list and fill out any necessary paperwork for try outs.
-
3
Attend cheerleading try-out practices. During these practices you learn the cheers, chants and stunts for try-outs. It is important to go to every practice; you don't want to miss any instruction. You may also be placed into groups during try out practices.
-
4
Practice, practice, practice. Go over your cheers and chants daily. Ask a friend to critique you. Use the critiques to improve your cheers and chants.
-
5
Show confidence when trying out in front of the judges. Know the cheer well enough that you don't have to worry about remembering it. Focus on showing your confidence and spirit. The judges will rate you better if you prove that you have what it takes to be a great cheerleader.
-
6
Smile and show your school spirit. Have fun when trying out whether in front of your student body or a panel of judges. Try to relax as you cheer and show everyone you are having a great time cheerleading.
