How to Select Color Guard Uniforms

Select Color Guard Uniforms for Your Team
-
1
Select the look that is right for your team. Uniforms should reflect the personality of your team and also be functional, practical and comfortable.
-
2
Start with color. White goes with everything, but shows dirt and is hard to maintain. Black is sophisticated, but may not be as visible as something brighter.
-
3
Choose something practical. Pants are easy to move in for certain routines, but hems touch the ground. Skirts swirl beautifully, but may get in the way of flag poles.
-
4
Look organized and professional. Choose flattering styles that draw attention to the neck and shoulders, such as V-neck tops. Slanted hemlines make bodies look longer. Read more uniform tips on the True Colors website. See the Resources section below for a link.
-
5
Raise money for uniforms through car washes, bottle and can drives, candy sales, sponsors and raffles.
-
6
Maintain team spirit and pride by enforcing a code of conduct for members in uniform, including any behavior you feel would reflect negatively on the team. Other rules could protect the uniform itself, such as prohibiting eating or drinking while in uniform.
Choose Color Guard Shoes and Gloves
-
7
Select gloves that will protect your hands when catching tosses, but won't affect your grip. Some gloves have slight padding over the palm, some are mesh so your hands won't sweat and some have rubber dots on the finger tips, or have no fingertips at all.
-
8
Select quality shoes that have support and flexible soles, such as dance shoes. Always consider safety first when choosing color guard shoes. Consider jazz shoes, jazz boots or dance sandals, for a barefoot look without losing support. Find a wide selection of shoes and gloves on the Avant Guard Flags and Costumes Website. See the Resources section below for a link.
