How to Attend a Color Guard Camp

Attend color guard camp or clinic as part of your existing program. Camps of varying lengths are offered throughout the country and accept elementary through college students. Lodging and meals are usually included with tuition.

Be aware that some companies, such as MA Auxiliaries offer private camps where a staff of instructors will come to your area. See the Resources section below for a link. In addition to tuition for students, the school picks up the travel and lodging expenses of the staff members or the staff members can lodge with members of your community to save money.

Know that MA Auxiliaries private programs offer the same technique curriculum as regular camp, as well as videos with choreographed routines, plus one or more custom choreographed routines for your team, depending on the program you choose.

Attend color guard camp as part of a marching band or cheer camp. Many camps offer nationwide offer camps with multiple disciplines, such as band, color guard, drill or cheer. Many high schools require that the color guard captain attend camp. Other members may not be required to attend but they are encouraged. The captain often uses that time to develop new routines.

Attend a color guard clinic as part of a larger performing arts program at a university. Such programs often offer leadership seminars in addition to technique curriculum. Search online for programs such as the one offered at the Oregon School for Music and Dance. See the Resources section below for a link.
