How to Team Talk

It is important to encourage and motivate a team. There are a variety of teams and they form for many reasons. For instance, a group of co-workers might form teams to compete against each other in a weight-loss contest. Sales teams are created to develop and promote business. Soccer, football, basketball and baseball teams promote team spirit where team talk can be extremely helpful in encouraging a positive attitude and a motivation to win.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring the group together often for a team talk. Arrange to meet weekly or before practices and games. Encourage an open discussion between the team. Look each individual in the eye when speaking.

    • 2

Approach a subject with a positive attitude. State the facts and be open to feedback from others. Explain that if any criticism is offered, it should be taken seriously and without any negativity.

    • 3

Give clear instructions and advice on how improvements can be made. A misinterpretation might result in the team not following appropriate directions. Any question should be answered accordingly. Comments from the team should be encouraged.

    • 4

Refrain from pointing fingers. If there is a need to bring attention to a team member who made a mistake, talk with them privately. Singling out a person can cause apprehension with the rest of the team.

    • 5

Show appreciation to each member of the team. If a particular team member made an accomplishment worthy of expression, then make the team aware. This may include extra weight loss, the sale of a new phone plan or even the most home-runs made in a single game.
