How to Repair & Refurbish Mascot Heads

Mascots evoke tradition and school pride to both children and adults at various sporting events. These larger-than-life characters move around the crowd, interjecting energy and team spirit. The head of the mascot highlights the costume and creates the character. Proper maintenance and ongoing repair ensure a long life for a mascot head.       Maintain mascot head to limit the need for repair by wiping off the inside after each use. Wipe with a cloth and soapy water. Avoid perfumes or deodorants. They can damage or discolor the fabric.

      Store mascot heads only after it is completely dried. Place the head in a position that puts the least amount of stress on its shape.

      Use hot glue, contact adhesive or needle and thread for minor repairs of the head. Make sure dried glue, adhesive and stitch marks are unseen after repair.

      Refurbish mascot heads using cell foam, Ethafoam or a combination of the two. Purchase either material at a boating supply store. Both are lightweight, breathable and long-lasting. They are also water-resistant. Install sports helmets inside head for protection and durability.
